on my first day at the house, there was a press conference for olympians inducted into the allstate olympic hall of fame. i was able to witness the event and listen to picabo street share her story about what it means to be an olympian and get a picture of the wall. the wall was done all by hand and in chalk by a local artist...she did an awesome job!
picabo's story...she has been out the limelight for a few years, just had her 3rd boy back in august, and is a typical busy stay at home mom. when allstate approached her about the hall of fame, she was shocked that people remembered her particular GOLDen moment back in 1998 at the lillehammer games and was honored to be approached by allstate to represent the hall of fame at the 2010 vancouver games. she recalls how she first started skiing and how it all came full circle for her the day she won that gold medal and who presented her with it, mr. jean claude killy of france. he dominated the men's alpine in 1968 grenoble games and winning the gold in downhill, and slalom, and giant slalom. back when picabo was little, her dad worked at a ski resort and jean claude happened to be there skiing. her dad went up to him and said my daughter wants to ski and one day she's going to win a gold medal. jean claude said i'll watch for her...and in 1998 he presented her with the gold! she said that's when it all came full circle for her and i think everyone in the room had the chills. it's crazy how things work out and it was cool to hear her share that story...anyway, i thought it was a great moment here and wanted to share :)
