so my day began and ended with the torch...i saw it in the parade on my way to the house before work, and then i was fortunate enough to attend the opening ceremonies with one of my best friends, julie!!! a HUGE THANK YOU to her and U.S. Figure Skating for taking me, it was absolutely one of the coolest things i've ever seen and been a part of...oh yes, they're interactive! we got kits when we arrived, it was a drum, shout out to my dad who's one of the best drummers i know :) the drum was filled with a flashlight, candle, and white poncho. julie and i put together our props and got some great pics before it all started....
the ceremony itself is kind of indescribable. so many cool special effects and lighting! the dancers and musicians were great, as were all the performers. it was incredible when the athletes came through... especially usa and canada, the place went crazy!! the athletes participated in the show as well, i'm sure they were thrilled to wear the poncho and use their lights. i think some highlights for me were k.d. lang singing the athlete's song, she's an odd lady, but she's got an amazing voice!! another part i loved were the dancers in the forest and the tap dancers, guess i'm a sucker as a former dancer :) i thought the speech by john furlong was cool, and of course seeing the torch lit at the end was the real shining moment. i was glad that the great one was the final torch and that he lit the cauldron outside. it's unfortunate the show had the glitch with the fourth part of the structure not opening, but you got the idea and it was the defining moment of the games actually opening in vancouver!! i had so much fun and it was truly and unbelievable experience. julie and i had a blast and it's something i will never forget!!!!!
so, now that i'm officially running on olympic adrenaline...i've got a few hours before my night shift at the USA house. i'm going on a hike up grouse mountain with my host mom, she's quite the fireball so i'm sure it'll be a challenging hike, but a beautiful view at the top :)
